I have been taking
photographs all my life and love the story a good photograph can tell. As I'm
also an actor, I realize how import it is to have a great headshot. A headshot
has to catch the viewer's eye in a fraction of a second and has to portray
a distinct character in one image.
Though I do a variety of photography, I now concentrate
on headshots because I love interacting with other actors and helping them to
succeed.
My advice to actors wanting to take headshots is to do your research. Talk to your agents and see what "type" they
think you are. If you don't have an agent, or even if you do, Watch TV,
commercials & films and see where they are using people that look like you. Take
a note of the type of outfits and colors they are wearing. Look at headshots
online and see what appeals to you and keep the links so you can show the
photographer you end up working with. Talk to more than one photographer and see
who you have good chemistry with. Look at their work and see what they have done
with other people that look like you. Consider the benefits of using a make-up
artist. This goes for men as well as women. Find out about the photographer's
reshoot policy. If you are going to cut your hair, do it at least 10 days before
the shoot. Eat healthily, stay hydrated and be well rested before your shoot.
Treat a headshot shoot the way you would treat a paying gig on your favorite TV
show: You would know the character, the scene, the lines and be fully prepared
to get in front of the camera and act. It is exactly the same with headshots.
Each look is a distinct character in a specific scene.
I am passionate about what I do. I love meeting new people and
working with characters. I believe that communication, trust, and a sense of
play is key to creating amazing photographs. In
the end, I want you to be happy and confident about your photographs.
